Document Title
Enrolling IBM i Users to Windows Server 2008
Document Description
When enrolling IBM i users to Windows Server 2008, take into account the following considerations.
Windows Server 2008 passwords must meet a certain complexity requirement before they are considered valid. Any IBM i user profile being enrolled to Windows Server 2008 must, therefore, also support the complexity requirements before the user is successfully enrolled. To support complex passwords on IBM i, set the IBM i password level to a value of 2 as follows:
Note: An IPL is required to effect this change.
CHGSYSVAL SYSVAL(QPWDLVL) VALUE(2)
Then, IPL the IBM i system.
When setting the password for an IBM i user profile that is going to be enrolled to Windows Server 2008, consider the following items:
| o | A password must be at least 6 characters long. |
| o | A password cannot contain the user's account name or full name. |
| o | The password must have a character from 3 of the following 4 categories. -- An uppercase letter (A through Z) -- A lowercase letter (a through z) -- A number (0 through 9) -- A nonalphanumeric special character (for example, !,@,#,$,%,*) |
| o | QRETSVRSEC - Must be set to a value of 1 so passwords can be retrieved |
| o | QPWDMINLEN - Should be set to the minimum password length as defined in the Windows password policy |
| o | QPWDMAXLEN - Should be set to the maximum password length as defined in the Windows password policy |
