Document Title
Configuring the Integrated DHCP Server
Document Description
The IBM® i5/OS™ iSCSI integrated DHCP server is used to automatically deploy boot parameters from the i5/OS target application to the IBM® xSeries® or BladeCenter blade initiator iSCSI HBA. The iSCSI integrated DHCP server reduces the complexity of having to manually set up iSCSI boot parameters in the initiator iSCSI HBA. It also simplifies hot spare between xSeries servers or between blade servers because there is no need to manually configure the required boot parameters. For a full description of the integrated DHCP server and concepts, see Integrated DHCP server in the iSeries Information Center.
The iSCSI integrated DHCP server is configured automatically by the i5/OS target application when a given server is started (varied on). The user is responsible only for initially configuring the xSeries or Blade server initiator iSCSI HBA (boot device) and providing some basic parameters in the i5/OS remote system configuration object.
The i5/OS remote system configuration object provides a default DHCP vendor ID, which should be used in most cases. If you have a reason to use a non-default DHCP vendor ID, the vendor ID choice must be set in the following places:
| o | i5/OS remote system configuration object: See Change remote system configuration properties in the iSeries Information Center. On the Boot Parameters tab, set the Vendor ID value to your vendor ID choice. |
| o | xSeries or Blade server initiator iSCSI HBA boot device: See the Configure the boot iSCSI HBA topic in the System i and System p iSCSI Host Bus Adapter for IBM xSeries and BladeCenter document. In the Fast!UTIL utility, find DHCP Boot Settings and set the Vendor ID value to your vendor ID choice. |
