Effective search strategies
To make your search more effective, do the following:
- Be specific - Try using words that are unique or try adding descriptive words.
- For example, a search for password may give you too many results. If you're really looking for password in Java Toolbox, specify password AND toolbox.
- Try using synonyms - If you get too few results or
Search doesn't find what you're looking for, try synonyms for your
original words.
- For example, instead of searching for Java classes, try Java education.
- Check your spelling - A single misspelled or mistyped word can significantly change your results.
- Learn from your results - Your search may not return exactly what you're looking for, but scanning the results may give you ideas for other words.
This Search function is not case sensitive, so do not worry about capitalization.
Improving your search words
To search for specific words or phrases, do the following:
- Add double quotes (" ") around specific phrases to focus your search on the exact phrase.
A phrase search can greatly improve the quality of the results.
- For example, you could enter: "lotus
notes support"
This query returns only pages that have the phrase lotus notes support in them.
- For example, you could enter: "lotus
notes support"
- Use Boolean (AND, OR, NOT)
to include or exclude certain words.
- For example, you could enter: websphere
AND domino
This query will return only pages that have the words websphere and domino in them.
- For example, you could enter: websphere
AND domino
Specify a product family and/or product
To narrow your search to a specific product or product family, use the product drop-down box:
- First select a product family, e.g. Disk systems.
- The product drop-down list will be updated to include only products within the selected product family.
- Choosing a product will narrow your search to only include results relevant to that product, e.g. 2105 Enterprise Storage Server.
